Ramsey Fire Update
Stanislaus National Forest, CA — Forest Officials say the Ramsey fire has grown overnight from 20 to 40 acres in an isolated area of the Stanislaus National Forest near the old Ramsey Mining site near Arnold. They say winds are fueling the flames. Forest Officials say they have called for additional crews including air support, a dozer, 5 engines and 5 hand crews. In total there are 150 fire fighter attacking the flames. Forest Officials say there is no containment at this time. They say about a half dozen structures are in the path of the fire, but at this point they say the risk to those structures is minimal. They are in the Ganns Meadow area east of Cottage Springs and Highway 4.

Update 1pm: Forest Officials report the fire has grown to around 150 acres. They say there is still no containment and the rate of spread is moderate. Forest Officials say one fire fighter suffered from heat stroke and was air lifted to Modesto this morning. He was treated and released. They say the rough terrain and winds are making it hard for crews to battle the blaze. Nearly half a dozen structures are still threatened, but Forest Officials say they are not in immediate danger.
Update 6pm: Forest officials say the Ramsey Fire is now 250 acres. The rate of spread is moderate. Forest Officials say the flames are now moving toward Highway 4. They say that is helpful as more than six structures had been in the path of the blaze earlier today. Forest Officials say those structures are still threatened because of the potential for wind shifts, but they are not immediate danger. They say they are battling the blaze heavily from the air with 3 helicopter including a helitanker. There are now 8 engines on the scene. Forest Officials estimate they will have containment by August 15th. They says it has been slow going as the rough terrain is making it hard for crews to battle the blaze and work on fire lines.
UPdate 9:30pm: Still 250 acres and no containment with a moderate rate of spread. Forest Officials say they will have a strike team of 5 engines watching the blaze tonight. They say they plan to hit the flames from the air and ground again tomorrow.
