Sugar Pine Trail Construction Underway
Twain Harte, CA– Work is underway on a new recreational trail through Tuolumne County.
The construction of the unpaved pedestrian walking trail along the historic Sugar Pine Railroad Grade in Twain Harte, will cause minor delays next week.
The Tuolumne County Public Works Department says the east entrance of Twain Harte Drive off Highway 108 will be intermittently closed at the railroad trestle during the week of June 20th-24th. Scaffolding will be installed on each side of the trestle for trail construction activity.
Delays are expected to be short. However, avoiding the area by using the west entrance to Twain Harte Drive is recommended.
The long term plan is for a 25.8 mile bicycle and pedestrian trail to run from Tuolumne to Strawberry, but Phase 1A construction (one mile) will run from East Avenue in Twain Harte to Gurney Station Road in the Black Oak Estates.
This Sugar Pine Railroad Trail project is funded by the American Recovery and Restoration Act (ARRA).
