Tuolumne County Grand Jury Report
Sonora, CA — The 2010-11 Grand Jury Report recommends the consolidation of some service districts in Tuolumne County.
The report is completed annually by volunteers in the county and examines complaints made against government agencies.
One of the Grand Jury’s recommendations is that the county place all existing fire districts under a single management system. The Grand Jury found that training and equipment are not consistent across the fire districts, and the change would be more cost efficient.
The Grand Jury also recommends that the Tuolumne City Sanitary District continue to pursue a consolidation with the Tuolumne Utilities District. On a related note, it feels that various special districts in the county should explore the creation of a joint Community Services District. Some special districts have problems finding members to fill open seats on their board. Others lack training in proper legal procedures.
Some other highlights:
The Grand Jury feels that an Activities Director position for the County’s Youth Centers should be restored as funding allows. It also recommends that improvements and repairs be carried out at the various Youth Centers.
The Jury feels that the Tuolumne Narcotics Team should have increased staffing due to the large number of marijuana eradications on public lands. It also recommends that the Sheriff’s Office start a socialization and transitional program for mentally ill inmates in the County Jail.
