CHP Increases Patrols On Highway 26
San Andreas, CA– Despite the fact that fatal traffic collisions have decreased in California and Calaveras County, the CHP has increased its patrols on Highway 26.
Nine fatal vehicle accidents have occurred in Calaveras County with nearly 50 percent reported on Highway 26 this year.
The San Andreas CHP says the causes have included speeding, DUI, inattention, crossing over double yellow lines and occupant restraint violations. Additional officers have been assigned to the Highway 26 corridor to focus specifically on enforcement.
Statewide, fatal traffic accidents were down in 2011.
In the first quarter of the year, fatal collisions decreased by 30 percent, injury accidents were down 23 percent, “property damage only” collisions decreased by 7 percent, and unbelted fatalities decreased 34 percent. That’s compared to the first quarter average of 2005 through 2010.
In Calaveras County, fatal collisions fell 46 percent, and the total number of traffic collisions decreased by 11 percent when compared to 2010.
