Denham Brings Message To Sonora
Sonora, CA — Senator Jeff Denham was in Sonora Thursday as he campaigns for the 19th District Congressional seat.
During a meet and greet with Republicans hosted by Yosemite Title, Denham was asked his opinions on a variety of topics, ranging from early prisoner release to healthcare reform.
On the current healthcare package in Washington, DC, Denham is very much in opposition.
“I don’t think the state can afford it, I don’t think individuals can afford it, and I don’t think it is right that California should have to subsidize Nebraska,” says Denham.
Since Denham is currently a state senator, he was questioned about whether he supports releasing prisoners early to help reduce California’s deficit.
“We’re certainly in a crisis situation right now, but I think it would be catastrophic to do early release and I’ll continue to fight against it,” says Denham. “I think there are other ways to solve our budget crisis.”
When it comes to the state’s economy, Denham said he supports the idea of eliminating or delaying implementation of AB 32, the Global Warming initiative. He also supports selling excess properties in the state, such as San Quentin prison and the L.A. Coliseum.
Denham will face former Congressman Richard Pombo in the Republican primary.
