Brophy Retires In December
Calaveras County Superintendent of Schools, John Brophy will be retiring at the end of this year.
Brophy was Friday’s KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".
Brophy traces working for the Calaveras County Office of Education back to 1981 when he was the Director of Special Education.
Kathy Northington will take over the position after winning last Tuesday’s election. She was the only person running for the position.
Brophy is concerned over the dwindling bare bones budget claiming that he is no longer just trimming fat but rather is now "into amputation".
Even in retirement, Brophy will be continue to remain concerned about the quality of education for local students.
Brophy plans to remain in the area and says that he and wife are both planning lots of travel and local volunteering.
The "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
