Mother Lode To Celebrate National Night Out
Sonora, CA — Sonora will celebrated National Night Out this evening with an ice cream social at the Opera Hall on Washington St.
Police Chief Mark Stinson will serve the ice cream during the open to the public gathering. Tonight’s event will run from 6-7:30pm.
National Night Out originated with the Take Back The Streets campaign. Because Sonora does not have a gang problem the decision was made to host National Night Out at a central location.
The purpose of the event is opening the lines of communication between the police and the community. It’s an opportunity for the public to share their concerns with officers on a face to face basis.
For the police it’s a chance to learn what is happening in the neighborhoods of the city.
Also this evening County Health Officer Dr. Todd Stolp will speak on the increasing abuse of prescription drugs in today’s society. He will also have a power point presentation and be available to answer any questions or address any concerns.
In Calaveras County the Angels Camp Police Department will take part in three “block” parties this evening starting at seven o’clock. Locations include Alawa Place of Miwuk, 707 S. Selkirk Ranch Rd. and El Dorado Court. All three locations are within the Greenhorn Creek subdivision off Hwy 4.
The purpose of the “block” parties is to demonstrate that those who break the law are not welcome and their actions will not be tolerated.
