Weekend Fatality In San Andreas

San Andreas, CA — Friends and family members of Michael Baumann are mourning his loss after a motorcycle accident Saturday.

The CHP says the 53-year old San Andreas resident was driving a motorcycle westbound on Mountain Ranch Road near Oak Park Drive when he lost control of his vehicle.

Authorities say Baumann was traveling too fast around a curve when he hit his brakes and slid off the roadway. He struck the dirt and rock embankment and suffered fatal injuries. He was wearing a helmet.

CHP Officer Mike Maddox says this is Calaveras County´s first fatality of the year. Last year there were nine fatalities, four of which were on motorcycles.

The CHP would like to advise drivers that now that spring time is here, slow down and drive carefully.
