S.B. 59 Kicked Out By Senate Demos

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — The Reliable Water Supply Bond Act of 2008, it´s Senate Bill 59, was defeated on a party-line vote Tuesday.

14th District State Senator Dave Cogdill stated that he was extremely disappointed but not surprised by the Senate Democrats who voted against this critical measure. “Today (Tuesday),” according to Cogdill, “the Senate Democrats stifled the voice of the people.”

It would have provided $1 billion for making the Delta environmentally sustainable, $500 million for groundwater storage, $200 million for water use efficiency programs and $250 million for resource stewardship and environmental restoration programs.

If approved by the legislature, SB 59 would have gone on the ballot in 2008 for voter approval.
