Laws Regarding Fireworks Vary Across The Mother Lode
Sonora, Ca — There are different rules and regulations across the Mother Lode when it comes to personal use of fireworks.
In Tuolumne County, all fireworks, including Safe and Sane, are prohibited by county ordinance.
In Calaveras County, all fireworks are prohibited in the Ebbetts Pass Fire Protection District and Central Calaveras Fire and Rescue Protection District (Hathaway Pines, Avery, Arnold, Dorrington, Mountain Ranch, Sheep Ranch, Railroad Flat and Glencoe).
In Angels Camp, Safe and Sane fireworks are allowed only on private property or at the Sporting Complex across from the parking lot at Bret Harte High School. Fireworks are not permitted in any public parks or along any roadways.
Fireworks such as firecrackers, bottle rockets and other fireworks which are not sold at permitted fireworks stands are illegal to have, sell, or use.
CAL Fire will be out patrolling in Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties. Persons caught with illegal fireworks will be cited and prosecuted. Consequences for possession of illegal fireworks range from misdemeanor citation to felony arrest.
