Lyons Bald Mountain And Apple Valley Estates Residents Invited To Public Meeting

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Highway 108 Fire Safe Council is inviting community members to a public discussion on fire protection, emergency preparedness, and fire prevention northeast of Sonora.

Fire Safe Council President Jerry Tannhauser says the meeting is being held to give residents of the Lyons Bald Mountain Road and Apple Valley Estates areas an opportunity to voice their concerns and possibly come up with a plan in case of a catastrophic fire or other emergency.

Tannhauser says the Fire Safe Council acts as a link between the community and the various fire fighting agencies as required by the 2003 Healthy Forest Restoration Act.

He says the aim is to attract members of the public to the meetings to discuss how the Council can assist homeowners in each geographic area of the county.

Officials say the area to be focused on this month is a particularly fire-prone area of private land in the wildland-urban interface bordering federal land.

Future meetings will be held on a monthly basis in such areas as Columbia, Tuolumne Rancheria and Phoenix Lake Road.

This month´s meeting is scheduled for this Thursday, January 5th at 6:00 p.m. at the Forest Service headquarters on Greenley Road in Sonora.

More information can be obtained at the Fire Safe Council web site.
