Sacramento, CA — The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says fewer than 40 percent of parolees reoffended during their first year out of prison.
That´s the lowest rate in California in more than a quarter century. Just over 38 percent of all felons who were released from prison in 2003 landed back behind bars by the end of the following year, the lowest rate since 1979.
The department´s goal is to reduce the rate another ten percent by 2010.
