Counterfeit Bill Passes “Pen Test” In Sonora

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Police Department is advising merchants to examine bills even if they pass the counterfeit pen test.

Reports indicate that on Tuesday the Sonora Grocery Outlet accepted a fraudulent $100 bill.

The clerk had checked the bill with a counterfeit pen and the bill passed. It turns out that the bill is a $5 bill, which was either bleached or acid washed, then a $100 bill was copied or printed onto it.

Looking closely at the bill, President Hamilton, who is on the $5 bill, can be seen faintly. The paper also feels very worn and thin.

Merchants are asked to call their local law enforcement agency if they suspect any currency as being counterfeit or fraudulent.
