Sheriff’s Department Calls Off Search For Missing Concord Girl
Sonora, CA — Until the Tuolumne River water flow decreases, the Sheriff´s Department has suspended the search for 12 year old Veronica McEvoy.
The Concord resident disappeared Monday afternoon when her 16 foot canoe overturned in the cold and fast running Tuolumne River near the bridge at Cherry Lake Rd. at the early intake power station.
Veronica´s aunt, Diana McEvoy, is seeking help from professional search and rescue personnel outside of the law enforcement community. She can be reached through (209) 532-6397.
Deputy Dan Crow, commander of the department´s Search and Rescue Unit, stated that extensive searches by ground and by air have been fruitless.
The canoe was recovered Tuesday about a half mile downstream under several feet of water wrapped around some rocks. There has been no sign of the young girl who stands 4´7″ and weighs 87 pounds.
