Community Needed In Weekend Search For Nita Mayo
Sonora, CA — It has almost been a year since 65 year old Nita Mayo went missing and her friends and family have certainly not given up on finding the Hawthorne Nevada woman.
The Mayo family is conducting a search this weekend near the Donnell Visa Overlook on Highway 108. Mayo´s daughter, Tracy Mayo is asking the Mother Lode community to come together and aid the family in the search for her mother.
The family is in need of people with horses, ATV/motorcycles, jeeps, dog teams, and as many people as possible for ground searching and posting flyers. Reports indicate Mayo left her home around 10:00am on Monday, August 8, 2005, telling friends she was en-route to a “village” on the west side of the Sonora Pass.
On Wednesday August 10th her vehicle was found abandoned on Hwy 108, 40 miles east of Sonora. Tracy Mayo says although the search will cover the same area as past searches, she feels the snow melt may have moved some of the piles of debris enough to reveal clues that may have been overlooked.
Anyone interested in helping is encouraged to go to the Strawberry Inn Resort, in Strawberry at 8:30am Saturday and Sunday. For more information contact Tracy Mayo at 701-730-4949.
