Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department Searches For Car Thief

San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department is on the lookout for an unnamed individual who was involved in a high speed chase early Sunday morning.

At approximately 3:09 a Sheriff´s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle traveling between 90-100 miles per hour eastbound on Hwy 26 west of Paloma Rd. The vehicle rolled over on the highway one mile west of Paloma Rd. Two subjects exited the vehicle and fled the scene.

The sheriff´s deputy was able to apprehend one of the suspects, 23 year old Jeffery Dirks of Stockton. Deputies learned the vehicle had been stolen in Stockton. Dirks was arrested and transported to the Calaveras County Jail where he was booked for charges relating to the stolen vehicle and for resisting arrest.

The second subject was not located and an investigation into his identity continues.
