November Pre-Thanksgiving Events

There are many events planned for the weekend before Thanksgiving November 22nd, and 23rd. First, the California DMV is hosting a hiring event at the Sonora Field Office today Thursday, November 20. The event will begin at 5:15 PM and feature a presentation by DMV hiring team members, who will highlight the benefits of state employment. All are welcome to attend, no RSVP necessary.

Friday at 7 PM Sonora will host Bradshaw Christian in the Sac Joaquin Division 6 playoffs. Summerville is in the Sac Joaquin Division 7 playoffs and will also host Linden at home at 7 PM. Sonora Wildcats Football games air live on KVML 1450AM/102.7 FM, and Summerville High football airs live on 93.5 KKBN with both streamed online here. 

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church will hold a Christmas Gift Fair this Saturday from 9 AM to 6:30 PM in its Parish Hall. The free event will feature a wide assortment of gift baskets to purchase, a bake sale, food for purchase at noon, plus raffle items and cash drawings. The event listing is here.

Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) is hosting a Salute to Veterans this Saturday at Black Oak Lanes in Tuolumne City. Check in is at noon with bowling beginning at 12:30 pm. Your $25 entry includes three games of bowling, rental shoes and a donation to help raise funds for our veterans as detailed here.

Operation Christmas Stuff the Truck will take place in the Walmart parking lot on Saturday from 11 AM – 6 PM. The event is organized by Nancy’s Hope as part of Operation Christmas Hope Toy Drive. Look for Clay’s moving truck and drop off unwrapped gifts and toys that will be given away to over 500 kids in our community on December 20. More details are in the event listing here.

A Giving Tree is a Christmas Tree with tags for people to select and then donate gifts to those in need. You can select a tag from the Giving Trees at the Junction Shopping Center. Purchase a gift for the child listed on your tag and return the unwrapped gift and tag by December 15. There is also a Giving Tree at WildBud Floral Company in downtown Sonora. Return the wrapped gift with the tag by December 23 to benefit those in need at the Center for A Non-Violent Community.

The Crafty Chicks 8th Annual Holiday Market will take place at the Calaveras Fairgrounds in Angels Camp this Saturday from 11 AP – 4 PM. Raffle tickets will be available where all of the proceeds will go directly to Sierra Hope’s community food pantry in Angels Camp. Donate non-perishable food items to receive an additional raffle ticket as detailed here.

Friday is opening night for Murphys Creek Theater’s performance of Over the River and Through the Woods. The play is from Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro, and described by Director Maryann Curmi as “A heartwarming experience about what the holidays are truly about, faith, family, and food.” Tickets are pay what you can here.

Performances continue at Sierra Repertory’s East Sonora Theatre for Million Dollar Quartet Christmas. The performance will include holiday hits from Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley as detailed in the blog by Tori James here.
