New Law Requires Headlights During Rain, Fog Or Snow

Sonora, CA — Although the weather in the Mother Lode has been Rain free, a new state law takes effect today requiring drivers in California to turn on their headlights when they turn on their windshield wipers in rain, fog or snow.
It could mean a fine of up to $96 if you forget. Enforcement will be a bit of a judgment call, since lights must be on only when wipers are in continuous use.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says using headlights can cut the risk of accidents. At least 28 other states have similar laws.
