Winter Weather Lingers In The Sierra
Lake Tahoe, CA — Old Man Winter is showing reluctance in letting go of the Sierra and Lake Tahoe regions this year.
A heavy spring snow storm hit the area yesterday, dumping an estimated foot of snow above the 7000 foot level. Truck traffic was also restricted on Interstate 80 early in the day.
The National Weather Service says scattered rain and snow showers are forecast in the mountains through today. The storm was also responsible for several tornado warnings.
The National Weather Service reported at least two tornadoes touching down. The Weather Service says one touched down near Comanche Reservoir, and another was reported on the ground near the town of Olivehurst.
The extended winter is good news for skiers however, as several ski area operators announced that they will remain open through Memorial Day.
