Transportation Leaders Approve Measure To Fight Toxic Air Pollution From Diesels
Sponsored by:
A measure by Jenny Oropeza to crack down on toxic emissions, exposure and risk from diesel sources late Monday passed its first policy hearing by the Assembly Transportation Committee 8-4.
The Bill would define “diesel magnet sources” of pollution to include airports, seaports, rail yards and distribution centers.
Specifically the measure by Oropeza would require these sources to inventory their toxic releases, conduct risk assessments, notify the affected community and come up with ways to reduce exposure.
The bill will now face fiscal review by the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
