Sponsored by:

Tourist will no longer have to ride noisy buses that sometimes interfere with their view because of pollution.

A fleet of new hybrid buses manufactured by an East Bay company will be begin shuttling tourists through Yosemite National Park.

The Diesel-electric buses with an Electric Drive System from General Motors, and manufactured by Hayward-based Gillig Corporation, will be the first electric buses to operate in a National Park.

The buses were delivered monday, and will carry visitors along Yosemite Valley and into the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.

Park officials say the hybrid buses produce up to 90 percent less emissions and they say they are very quiet as well.

The buses will be phased in over the next few months to replace the old diesel ones
