Quartz Mountain Fire Grows To 1200 Acres
Coarsegold, CA — Local CDF crews and resources remain in the Quartz Mountain area about 95 miles south of Sonora fighting a blaze that has grown to about 1200 acres and prompted evacuations.
All aircraft from Columbia have been deployed along with two local strike teams which include four crews, ten engines and two leaders. CDF says a total of 24 engines, four water tenders and 350 fire fighters are on scene. In addition, a total of four air tankers and five helicopters are working on the fire.
Spokesman Greg Grizzell says the blaze is about 55-percent contained and officials hope to have total containment by 6:00 tonight.
Officials say they are considering allowing the evacuees from two subdivisions to return to their homes sometime this afternoon.
There have been no major injuries from the blaze and no property has been destroyed.
