Merced, CA — Enrollment at the University of California´s newest campus is short of what officials had hoped for.
U.C. Merced had projected an initial enrollment of 1000 students for its inaugural year.
At last report, 875 students including 706 freshmen had signed on.
One official speculates that the shortfall may be due to a shortage in campus housing.
Officials are promising the completion of class rooms in the next several months. In the meantime, classes will be held in the library.
The school is projecting an enrollment of 25,000 students by the 2030 school year.
