CHP Cites Speed As Chief Factor In Fatal Crash
Jamestown, CA — CHP is naming excessive speed as the chief cause of a single vehicle accident that took the life of a 16-year-old Sonora girl Friday night.
Officers say Ashley Wood was driving with two passengers on Campo Seco Road near Campbells Flat Road just after 10:00 when the vehicle approached a curve at a high rate of speed and began to drift across the center line.
Investigators say Wood over-corrected which caused the car to spin out of control and travel off the road.
The car then reportedly traveled through a barbed wire fence before colliding with an oak tree. Authorities say Wood was killed on impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Passenger 19-year-old Scott Puls was medi flighted to Memorial Hospital in Modesto with severe head and chest trauma. The third passenger was transported to Tuolumne General Hospital with moderate injuries.
CHP says there is no evidence of alcohol involvement.
