San Andreas, CA — The board of supervisors in Calaveras County will discuss several items on Tuesday.
Included are approving proclamations recognizing both retiring Mokelumne Hill Fire Protection District Chief Michael Dell’Orto and Calaveras Consolidated Fire Protection District Chief Richard Dickinson.
Dell’Orto joined the Mokelumne Hill Fire Department in 1963 and served for over 60 years. He was also a Calaveras County Supervisor from 1988 to 1996. He has contributed to the advancement of fire services in the county and recently was instrumental in the development and completion of the Paloma Fire Station.
Dickinson has served as the Calaveras Consolidated Fire Chief for 10 years, following a distinguished career with the Fremont Fire Department, where he retired as a Battalion Chief. Known for developing strong partnerships and being an innovative leader, he established Calaveras County’s first Rescue Task Force in partnership with the Sheriff’s Office, resulting in the development of a countywide Active Shooter Response Policy that remains a model for coordinated emergency response in the region.
Later during Tuesday’s meeting, the board will vote on approving a new contract with Dr. Rene Ramirez as the Public Health Officer. Ramirez, who resides in Fresno County, was first appointed to the role in 2021. The county sent out a new request for proposals, and Dr. Ramirez had the highest overall score and was deemed the most qualified respondent. He would continue to serve as an independent contractor. The proposed agreement will pay up to $166,400 from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
Tuesday’s regular session portion of the meeting starts at 9 am.
