Mi Wuk Village, CA—Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District Fire Chief James Klyn has resigned from his position after accepting an opportunity to return to a department where he previously worked.
Klyn announced the change in an open letter to residents, saying the decision was difficult after becoming part of the Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine community and serving as its fire chief. Klyn said he has decided to return to the field and take on a more hands-on role in the fire service after spending time in an administrative position as chief. During the transition, Klyn will remain as the district’s part-time fire chief while the department recruits and hires his replacement. He will also assist the hiring committee during the search.
Klyn credited the district’s assistant chief, station captain, firefighters and volunteers with helping maintain the department’s operations and said he is confident the department will continue providing service to the community during the transition. He also said he hopes to remain involved with the department as a volunteer chief in some capacity. Klyn thanked the district’s Board of Directors, firefighters, volunteers, staff and residents for their support during his tenure.
“This isn’t really goodbye,” Klyn wrote, noting that he expects residents will continue to see him around the community in a different role.
The district will begin the process of finding a new fire chief.
