A tense situation in the community of Valley Springs yesterday morning.
Calaveras County Sheriff deputies discovered an unexploded military rocket in the bedroom of a 23 year-old Valley Springs man early Monday.
Authorities called in the Sheriff´s Explosive Ordinance team and a military explosives team from Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield to the home on the 4,400 block of Baldwin Lane.
The missile was safely disarmed, but while on the property an ATF bomb dog found a second device, an exploded pipe bomb in the garage. Officials say the device – made from PVC pipe – had been detonated but had not completely been destroyed.
