Winds were lighter at the scene of California´s largest wildfire, near the small community of Walker, but it continued to grow to 21,760 acres yesterday.
About 1,400 firefighters were involved in the effort to slow the advance of flames on the southern flank of the blaze, with more firefighters on the way. Fire officials say the blaze is only 15% contained, and they do not expect it to be fully surrounded for another nine days. The fire slowed on its northeast flank. Some 400 people who were evacuated from homes during the weekend were able to return. Most are residents of Walker.
