Bad Marks For Orange County BBB

The Better Business Bureau doesn´t always live up to its good name. According to the Orange County Register, the Southern California chapter gave a “satisfactory” or “clear” report to more than 50 businesses that were sued or disciplined by government agencies for shoddy or illegal practices. More than 40 businesses had lost their plumbing, contracting or auto repair licenses for serious violations. The paper also found the nonprofit bureau had only four employees who investigate complaints. Ten times that many were telemarketers who spent their time soliciting businesses for membership dues. Bureau President William Mitchell says he´s moving to correct the problems.
