Private Prisons To Close

A state budget committee has approved a proposal to close two small privately operated prisons in Kern County. The Mesa Verde facility in Bakersfield and another prison operated by Wackenhut Corrections in McFarland will close to help ease the state´s budget crisis. The Kern County facilities are among five prisons slated to close.
