Testimony has resumed in the San Diego trial of the man accused of abducting and killing seven-year-old Danielle van Dam. In opening statements yesterday, the attorney for defendant David Westerfield said it would have been impossible for his client to have dumped the girl´s body where it was found. Defense attorney Steven Feldman told jurors that “science” would come to the rescue of his client. But science was a central part of the prosecution´s opening statement. A prosecutor said investigators had found the girl´s hair, along with carpet fibers from her home, in Westerfield´s house and his motor home. Westerfield is charged with kidnapping and murder and could face the death penalty if he´s convicted.
