Junk Mail Bill Proposed

Sponsored by:

Tired of getting bundles and bundles of junk mail sent to your house? One state Assemblyman might have the answer. Assemblyman Joe Nation has a bill that would require unsolicited mail to contain a phone number or address so consumers can remove their names from the mailing list. State law already provides similar protections for e-mail and fax solicitations, so Nation says there should be one for direct mail. But the bill could be dead in the water. It was defeated in the Assembly last week and now Nation is trying to figure out if he wants to bring the bill back.

Critics say small businesses that depend on the mail because they can´t afford television and radio advertising could be devasted if the legislation is passsed.
