Calaveras Short of Female Guards

A shortage of female guards has prompted Calaveras County to close the women´s portion of its jail and
send its female inmates to Amador County. In the two weeks since the swaps started, Calaveras has sent six female inmates to Amador and received a dozen
male inmates in return.
