Coulterville, CA — Firefighters are on the scene of a vegetation fire on Highway 49 in Mariposa County north of Coulterville. The flames broke out along the highway by Haigh Road. Cal Fire reports a Columbia helicopter and 2 tankers, 4 engines and one dozer from the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of Cal Fire have been called in to assist with the fire. The fire is 5 to 6 acres in size at this time. No structures are threatened.
Update 5:30 PM: Mariposa Cal Fire reports the flames have grown to 50 acres burning oak woodland. Â Ten additional engines and three more helicopters have been called in to help battle the blaze.
Update 5:50 pm: Cal Fire report the fire has grown to 60 acres.
Update 6:20 pm: Cal Fire reports all of Columbia Air Attack is working on the blaze. Â In addition, a strike team of five engines, and two strike teams of inmate, which can be up to 15 inmates, has also been called in to assist in battling the fire. Â No structures are threatened.
Update 7:35 pm: Â Cal Fire reports the acres has decreased back to 50 acres and there is no containment. Â However, no structures are threatened. Â Cal Fire reports the fire is in a remote area and crews will remain working the fire throughout the night.
