Tuolumne Ranchers Moving Livestock

Sponsored by:

Tuolumne City, CA — The Sherriff’s Office is recommending some ranchers near Tuolumne City move their livestock due to the Rim Fire.

At 12:20pm, Sherriff’s Office Spokesperson Scott Johnson told us that deputies have been notifying many ranchers outside of Tuolumne City that it would be beneficial to start moving livestock in the event that an evacuation notice is issued.

Johnson says it is just precautionary at this time, and points out that there have been no evacuation notices issued for the Tuolumne City area.

Buchanan Road in Tuolumne remains closed at Sunrise Drive. The CHP is overseeing the road closure.

If you need help to move your animals, Tuolumne County Animal Control is kenneling pets. They can coordinate places for livestock to go. You can call them at 209-694-2730. Also, the Sherriff’s Posse Fairgrounds are taking in horses. You will need to bring your own water bucket and feed. Temporary pens can be hooked up to the arena as well. You can call 209-532-8269 or 209-559-1323.

Pine Mountain Lake is the largest area under an evacuation advisory. The others include:

• Camp Mather
• Berkeley Family Camp
• Hardin Flat
• Ferretti Road
• Clements Road
• Camp Tawonga
• Buck Meadows
• San Jose Family Camp
• Rainbow Pool
• Yosemite Inn
• Early Intake
• Evergreen Lodge
• Packard Canyon
• Spinning Wheel Forest Service Facility
• Update: Cherry Creek Campground evacuated.

Officials have put in place a reverse 911 system to notify residents that are under an evacuation advisory. The 911 dispatchers are getting flooded with calls from people in the region. The county has set up a hotline for people that want to call in with questions, at 533-5174.
