The Right Place At The Right Time Results In Chase And Arrest
Arnold, CA – A vehicle theft that began with a chase in the Arnold area of Calaveras County ends with the suspect arrested, but not inside the stolen Jeep.
The owner of a 2006 Jeep Wrangler recently reported that his vehicle was stolen. As a CHP officer headed to the owner’s residence to take the report, he spotted the SUV on the right-hand shoulder of Highway 4 west of Upper Moran Road with a man, later identified as 40-year-old Robert Allen Williams, behind the wheel. When the officer pulled over behind the Jeep, the driver sped away, and a pursuit ensued.
During the chase, Williams drove recklessly with no regard for public safety, according to CHP officials, who added, “Due to Williams driving recklessly, the pursuit was terminated by the pursuing officer as Williams drove down a dirt road near Waterline Road.”
A short time later, the officer spotted Williams again, but not in the Jeep; he was walking on the roadway. Williams was arrested for felony evading and for having stolen a vehicle. This incident is still under investigation.
