Caltrans Doing Wildfire Fuel Reduction Work On Highway 49
Sonora, CA — Caltrans reports that it is in the midst of doing wildfire fuels reduction work on Highway 49.
The removal of the overgrown vegetation is designed to reduce wildfire risk and to create fuel breaks.
Work began Monday in Tuolumne County between Shaws Flat Road and Rawhide Road and crews will remain in that area through Wednesday, June 26.
They will move into Calaveras County between Copello Drive and Fourth Crossing Road from Thursday, June 27 to Wednesday, July 10. Then Thursday, July 11 through Wednesday, July 17, the work will take place between Forth Crossing Road and Mages Way. The final stretch will be from Thursday, July 18 through Wednesday, July 26, between Corral Flat Road and Big Bar Road.
In Tuolumne County, the work is taking place Mondays through Thursdays from 7 am-5 pm and Fridays from 7 am – 3 pm. In Calaveras County, the work will run Mondays through Fridays from 8 am – 3 pm. Travelers can expect 10-15 delays most of the time, with some longer delays, also possible. Be prepared for activity in those areas.
