SPI Closing Public Access Of Private Lands Due To Fire Risk

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Citing the increasing wildfire risk, Sierra Pacific Industries is temporarily prohibiting public access to its private lands in California, effective Friday, June 28.

SPI allows people to utilize its private lands for recreational purposes but often puts in place a prohibition during the peak fire season. Public roads crossing SPI lands are not impacted by the closure.

The company says in a statement, “SPI considers several wildfire risk factors when closing its lands, including increasing temperatures, dry vegetation, low moisture levels in fuels, and long-range weather forecasts for the region. The closure will remain in effect until moisture levels and long-range weather forecasts improve.”

SPI is the largest landowner in California, owning around 1.75 million acres.
