Snapshots Of Yosemite Wildlife
Yosemite, CA – Get a glimpse into the life of wildlife thriving in Yosemite National Park as 20 motion-sensitive cameras along the Sierra crest snap pictures of wildlife, including the elusive and federally endangered Sierra Nevada red fox.
The red fox is pictured in the image box along with photos of a ram, bear, and other animals. Park biologists maintain the cameras, which are visited once or twice throughout the year. Then the biologists set to work sorting through tens of thousands of photos to gather information on the wildlife and how they are faring.
With the red fox population of 18-39 throughout the entire Sierra Nevada, capturing a photo of one can be tricky or a stroke of luck, but it is not as the cameras are placed in such a way that a wide variety of wildlife within the Sierra crest is also photographed.
“Think of it like 20 stationary wildlife paparazzi cameras waiting in anticipation for the Sierra Nevada red fox, an A-list celebrity, while other wildlife are photographed as their supporting cast,” according to park officials.
