Cal Fire Firefighting Training
San Andreas, CA– Cal Fire will be conducting live fire training in the Mother Lode today through Thursday.
This training is designed to instruct fire line supervisors from around the state how to “fight fire with fire.” Their instruction will include proper techniques to plan and conduct complex firing operations during wildland fire suppression operations.
Batallion Chief Cameron Todd says the training will be held on San Andreas Sanitation District property off Gold Strike Road, as well as East Bay Municipal Utility District land on Cord Road in San Joaquin County.
“At those sites they’re going to learn skills ranging from how to apply fire specifically with a tool on the ground to see the effects of that,” said Cameron. “From there we take them up to the next level of being a team leader. And the final portion of their training is how to be a supervisor over a large firing operation entailing multiple teams.”
Smoke may be visible in the training areas over the next few days. Approximately 160 acres of grass and oak will be burned during this three day period.
