Businesses in Calaveras County Continue to Face Tough Economic TimesM
Citing tough economic times suffered by the business community as of late, the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce had decided last October to postpone the Frog Gala and Auction until possibly this Spring at Frog Town. Now the event appears as though it will not return until this Fall, possibly on October 17th.
The Executive Director of the Calaveras Chamber, Diane Gray, was KVML’s Friday Newsmaker of the Day.
According to Gray, the charity auction’s success is based on the generosity of local citizens, and the Chamber does not want to impose on residents at this time.
"I think we’re hanging on in Calaveras and we’re hoping that this Spring sees some turnaround" said Gray. "But it’s been a tough year here and we’re having a hard time."
Gray said that it is too soon to tell if there are any local economic bright spots but perhaps the Chamber will know in about another month. Gray said that hopefully there will soon be a pickup in both tourism and home construction.
One event that is presented by the Calaveras Chamber and could easily be considered a bright spot for many local residents, is the Motherlode Bridal Fair.
The Bridal Fair takes place this Sunday from 11am through 4pm at the Calaveras Fairgrounds (Frog Town) inside of Mark Twain Hall.
Over 50 vendors from caterers to florists, venues and DJs will be present.
The parking and attendance is free. For more information call (209) 736-1111
The Newsmaker of the Day can be heard each weekday morning at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47 on AM-1450 KVML.
