Tuolumne County Youth Track Meet Postponed

Sonora, Ca — Due to the high degree of smoke in the Mother Lode region the 2008 Tuolumne County Youth Track Meet set for a 6:15pm start Tuesday at Dunlavy Field at Sonora High School has been postponed indefinitely.

Tuolumne County Recreation Department Supervisor Mike Chappell states that this decision was made following consulatation with County Health Officer Dr. Todd Stolp. Stolp maintains that visibility is now only five to six miles which is considered marginal for any type of athletic event that would any type of strenuous exercise.

The 100 degree plus heat predicted for the remainder of the week was also a contributing factor to the final decision.

Chappell is hopeful the event for ages 1-14 can be rescheduled for the immediate future.
