Changes In Store For Calaveras County Fair
Angels Camp, Ca — Due to budget constraints, the Calaveras County Fair will have more arena events and less feature entertainment during next year´s festivities.
General Manager Ray Malerbi says the Fair will also be cut short by one day. Instead of opening on a Wednesday, it will now kick off on a Thursday.
?We have made a commitment to the Division of Fairs and Expositions, our oversight agency, to reduce our deficit by $50,000 per year, over the next few years,? says Malerbi. ?We want to get to a point where we are no longer carrying a deficit and can start to build a reserve.?
The 2009 budget that will be submitted to the Division of Fairs will call for spending of around $842,000 and taking in around $758,000 in revenues. The Fair will also receive an additional $150,000 in state horse racing fees.
?We have tightened our belt, but we still feel that it is very important that we put on a really good show and a really good fair,? adds Malerbi.
The Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee will again be held during the third week of May.
