Walkers Brave Rain For Fitness Challenge
Sonora, Ca — Despite the rainfall, the first annual Tuolumne County Fitness Challenge Walk/Run was considered a success.
The event along the Dragoon Gulch Trail was a kickoff to the Fitness Challenge, a community wide campaign organized by the Tuolumne County Office of Education that promotes healthy living.
?Considering the rain, I´m very happy with the turnout,? says Joe Silva, County Superintendent of Schools. ?We were anticipating around 100 participants with good weather, but now that it is raining, and we still had 50 within the first hour, we are very pleased.?
With lawmakers at the State Capital on break, Assemblyman Tom Berryhill was in town to take part in the event.
?Anytime we get a chance to come up to Tuolumne County and support the schools, it is our pleasure to do so,? says Berryhill. ?We have really been looking forward to coming up here and doing this walk.?
The walk ran from 8-10am, and started at Rotary Park.
