Forest Service Seasonal Roads Close For The Winter

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Effective this week forest roads with seasonal closure gates are being closed.

The closure is due to anticipated wet conditions from rain and snow. Stanislaus National Forest Public Affairs Officer Pat Kaunert says the closures are to protect the public from potentially dangerous conditions such as wheel ruts, washouts and erosion. In addition the roads are closed to limit the Forest Service´s annual maintenance expenditure.

Cottonwood Rd. (1N04) on the Mi-Wok and Groveland Ranger Districts will remain open through the winter from Tuolumne to Cherry Lake. With the exception of Road 2N10 (leading through private property owned by Sierra Pacific Industries), all Forest Service roads to the south of Cottonwood Rd. will remain un-gated and open unless inclement weather, rocks in the roadway or downed trees mandate their closure.

On the other hand Lumsden Rd. (1N10) on the Groveland Ranger District is closed for the season.

Click Stanislaus National Forest for additional information on road closures.
