Male Hit By Train Remains Unidentified
Sonora, CA — The unidentified male hit by a Sierra Northern freight train was lifeflighted after being removed from the scene by paramedics and the Sonora Fire Department.
According to Police Chief Mace McIntosh the man was lying on the southwest side of the tracks near the old Whitt Sawmill that was destroyed by fire February 27, 2007.
The train´s horn failed to awaken the man. Brakes were immediately applied but he was hit. The Police Department received the call from the Sierra Northern crew at 12:21pm.
Identification of the individual is pending. McIntosh believes in all liklihool he is homeless. He may have been sleeping or passed out from from an excess of alcohol. Hospital Rd. has been reopened to vehicle traffic.
