Central Calaveras Fire District Bans Fireworks
Mountain Ranch, CA — With the threat of fire being a very real problem in Calaveras County, one local fire district is taking the lead to ban fireworks.
Recently, the Central Calaveras Fire Protection District passed a new fireworks ordinance, which bans the pyrotechnics. Special permits can be obtained for organized displays.
Central Calaveras Fire Chief Robert Gill says his agency felt it needed the ban since the district is located in a high wildland fire impact region. The district covers Glencoe, Rail Road Flat, Mountain Ranch and Sheep Ranch.
Fireworks are legal in Calaveras County with the exception of those fire districts that ban them.
So far, Ebbetts Pass Fire District is the only other district, which has a ban in place.
Ebbetts Pass Fire Chief Warren Wilkes says his district also offers special permits to groups to set off fireworks in a designated place by one designated person.
Chief Gill says it´s a common sense approach to a potentially catastrophic problem in Calaveras County.
