Farmers Ask Calaveras Supes To Ease Up On Fees
San Andreas, CA — A group of local farmers gathered at the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday and asked the board to ease up on its agricultural fees.
The three farmers say small-scale farms just can´t keep up with the increasing county fees.
The county has increased its agricultural fees periodically over the last few years and is considering another increase in some fees later this month.
Supervisor Steve Wilensky says he would like to work with the farmers on bringing down some of those fees, such as bringing in their scales for an inspection instead of an inspector driving out to their individual farms.
The farmers say several families will simply give up if there is another increase in fees.
MyMotherLode.Com will provide coverage of those proposed rate increases later this month.
