Calaveras Works To Clean Up Old Dump
Wilseyville, CA — Calaveras County officials are seeking a state grant to help clean up an old dumpsite in Wilseyville.
The owners of Mitchell Mill approached the county after they were issued a clean up order from Code Compliance. It was then brought to the county´s attention that this was a county used dump and therefore it should bear the burden of any necessary clean up.
Since then, the Environmental Management Agency has monitored the facility and posted no dumping signs.
Tuesday the Board of Supervisors authorized applying for a $50,000 grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board that would help clean up the solid waste portion of the dump.
Agency Director Brian Moss says it is not clear if there will be further clean up needed after the initial clean up of surface matter.
Supervisor Steve Wilensky, who represents the area, assured the property owners that the Code Compliance case against them has been dropped.
