California To Sue The Bush Administration
Sacramento, CA — California and nine other states are planning on suing the federal government in an effort to force the Bush administration to increase gas mileage requirements for sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks.
In filing a petition for review with the Ninth U-S- Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, the states claim the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has failed to conduct a thorough analysis of the environmental benefits of tougher fuel economy regulations.
State Attorney General Bill Lockyer says the federal agency has ignored the law when it comes to considering the environmental impacts of mileage standards.
